Mandatory Conflict of Interest Training for Researchers on Public Health Service (PHS) Funded Projects

New federal regulations now require that all investigators on PHS funded projects must have received Conflict of Interest training prior to engaging in any PHS funded research. Investigator includes any person regardless of title or position, who is responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of the research. Most PHS funded projects are through NIH but may also come from other agencies under the Department of Health and Human Services as well such as Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In addition, there are non-PHS agencies that fund research that have also elected to adopt the PHS Financial Conflict of Interest regulations. These include:

  • Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR)
  • Alpha-I Foundation
  • American Asthma Foundation
  • American Cancer Society (ACS)
  • American Heart Association (AHA)
  • American Lung Association (ALA)
  • Arthritis Foundation (AF)
  • CurePSP
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
  • Lupus Foundation of America (LFA)
  • Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)
  • Susan G. Komen for the Cure
